Driftwood
I love driftwood. I once lived on a sailboat named, Sea Castle for about 4 years in the Abacos in the Northern Bahamas. I fell in love with combing the beaches for interesting shapes and even discarded objects that had been weathered by the salty sea and the sun. Back then I made island scenes and hanging pieces I would paint and sold these things to visitors from all over the world.
Today, living in Northern California, I don’t need to go to the salty ocean beaches to find the most beautiful driftwood to play with. Instead, I go to the many lakes and rivers where I’m allowed to gather driftwood to my hearts content. It’s great because it is from fresh water and doesn’t smell like the salty ocean wood does. Pretty much all of the driftwood shown here is from the Shasta Dam BLM side located in Redding, California. I cut and melt my own wine bottle glass to add to the hanging “wood chimes” and use various found glass and/or vintage objects in the table top pieces. I mix and mold the bases with plaster and broken glass/shell to create a terrazzo heavy base- another of my favorite things. I hope you enjoy these and let me know if you are interested in having your own to hang in your home.
