Abstraction

Although Hans Hoffman taught art students of the early Abstract Expressionist period that they must use some form of nature to create it’s abstract expression, I don’t consciously do that. I find occasionally the view of a beautiful landscape or some combination of colors on a movie set, etc…make an impression on me and I will try and recreate some sense of that in a painting. I love the history of the Bauhaus artists and our own American rebels of early 1900’s New York, The Irascibles, and especially the women of that time…their love and passion for experimental artistic expression. All of my work is experimental, I have no formal art training other than the few required courses I enjoyed taking to earn my BFA in Interior Design. I love preparing the color pallet and painting large canvases, when I have enough room. Currently, I work out of my home studio that is full of natural light on the second floor in Chico, California. I paint what is fun and trying to be recognized or heard outside of my heart or my head. Sometimes there is something to be said that is louder than simply color and shapes, but sometimes all I care about is the process and the movement of my body to create.
